E. Catalano, Monica Vitti, anni ‘70
Presented in occasion of “FotoGrafia- The International Festival of Photography in Rome”, the exhibition presents a selection of forty historical portraits of Elisabetta Catalano in black and white and in color, selected between famous characters of the cinema world. Among the famous actors and directors: Marco Ferreri, Federico Fellini, Silvana Mangano, Stefania Sandrelli, Roberto Benigni, Charlotte Rempling, Ursula Andress, Monica Vitti, Tina Aumont, Marisa Berenson. Elisabetta Catalano is one of the greatest Italian photographers, well known for her contacts with the art, culture and performing arts world. She began her career specializing in photo-portraits, collaborating with such magazines as Il Mondo, L’Espresso, Vogue Italia and Vogue US, shooting celebrities wearing dresses of the most important fashion stylists of that age and some of the leading characters of the International cultural and artistic scene in the last decades. She was particularly focused in the construction of images with special sense of aesthetics and accurate research of formal perfection, always with a delicate psychological sensibility in catching the expressions upon people faces. Elisabetta Catalano reads through her camera the world of cinema and her time, that it is even our time, reflecting always her personal choices. It is the first of two solo exhibitions on women artists at the Valentina Moncada Gallery in occasion of the “FotoGrafia-International Festival of Photography in Rome”. The second in 2004 presents a selection of photos by Ileana Florescu printed on aluminum.
